Meet the Experts’ Event: A Look Back at FENS Forum 2024
Have you ever dreamed of having a chat with your role model? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ask your questions to the author of the papers directly? Have you ever wished for a casual meet-up with a senior scientist to ask about life in the lab and beyond? This dream became a reality at the FENS Forum 2024.
Our Meet the Experts’ Event brought together young scientists and senior researchers in an informal setting to discuss research, life in the lab, and beyond.
Who were the experts?
More than 20 distinguished speakers from the FENS Forum joined us, including plenary and special lecture speakers like Malin Parmar, Mackenzie Mathis, Alexander Mathis, Asya Rolls, Tobias Hauser, and many more!
Where did it take place?
The meetings were held at FINNs Cafe, a cozy spot close to the FENS Forum venue at WU Campus Wien.
When did it happen?
The event took place from 2:30pm to 3:15pm on the 26th (Wed), 27th (Thu), and 28th (Fri) of June 2024.
How were the groups arranged?
Participants were grouped based on their research interests, ensuring meaningful and engaging conversations with experts in their respective fields.
What was discussed?
Discussions varied widely, covering the senior researchers’ work, laboratory experiences, career perspectives, and work-life balance. The flexibility of the topics allowed for personalized and enriching interactions.
Selection process:
Participants were chosen through a lottery system from those who signed up. Selected attendees received email notifications with their meeting times just before the FENS Forum.
Despite the limited number of slots, the event successfully provided a unique opportunity for early career scientists to connect with leading researchers in an intimate and casual setting.
We hope this event inspired and motivated all attendees, fostering connections and insights that will continue to benefit their scientific journeys.
